Levante International Film Festival 2010
competition sections postponed to 2011
The 2010
Festival will take place this year with non-competitive sections
only. Deadlines for the competition sections have been extended and
submissions already received by existing deadlines as well as those
made by the new deadlines will be considered for the 2011 edition of
the Festival, which will take place from 1 - 11 July 2011.
After the great edition of 2009, this year the Levante International
Film Festival is suffering a crisis in terms of growth, ideas,
participation and organization. New proposals will make it richer,
with sections related to both current themes and traditional ones (Independent
Cinema, Eastern Europe, the South as a site of the human condition).
2010 Programme: there will be 5 forums dedicated to energy (nuclear
energy, alternative energy, body energy, mental energy, spiritual
energy), with screenings and round tables with important guests;
there will be meetings with representatives of the most important
independent world film festivals; there will be a presentation of
the cinema of Kazakhstan with the most recent and important works of
this country. The Levante International Film Festival will also talk
about the South of the World, that is, countries bound by poverty
and the pressure of growth.
The big event will be closed by the Manaki Brothers’ (pioneers of
Balkan cinema) photo exhibition.
This year
we will not have the competition sections Custom, Experience and
Investigation, despite the large number of entries.
In fact, the great number of submissions received and the
organization of the non-competitive sections, together with
important news, oblige us to pay particular attention to the whole
festival and to take important decisions.
So, we are planning the 2010 edition as a festival without
competitive sections, and the next edition (in 2011) as an event to
be held during the summer (from 1 - 10 July 2011), with
international guests and both non-competitive and competitive
sections, with the role it deserves, starting with the choice of a
new location.
Concerning its location, the Festival is going to acquire a 1,100 sq
m building, as a permanent base for the Levante International Film
Festival, to be handled by a new company, the Levante International
Film Festival Company.
For these reasons (the new company, the acquisition of the building,
the large number of submissions, and the importance of the sections),
the edition of the Festival in 2010, the eighth, will be considered
as a bridge to the ninth, on which we are already working, so that
it will be a memorable edition.
We offer to all filmmakers who have already submitted to the 2010
edition the opportunity to participate in the 2011 edition, from 1 -
10 July 2011, without changing the submission they have made to the
2010 edition. We are extending the remaining submission deadlines to
30 September and 31 December 2010. All films produced during 2009
and 2010 will be eligible for submission and we will inform all
submitters by 30 April 2011 whether or not they have been selected
for the 2011 Festival.
We feel sure that these changes, even though they may create
problems for some, will offer advantages to everyone; advantages
coming from an event that we hope will become one of the most
important in the scene of independent cinema in the world.
rules & regulation
1. THE FESTIVAL
The Levante International Film Festival is organized by “Nuove Produzioni Spettacolari” in collaboration with “Associazione Culturale LIFF”. With the support of: the Apulian regional Council, the City of Bari and the provincial Council, sponsors and other public and private institutions. The Eighth edition of the festival will be held in Bari, in November 2010.
2. AIMS
The Levante International Film Festival is a special event, an occasion for the world of international independent film production to meet and exchange ideas. It aims at promoting, and making a serious contribution to, the diffusion of independent films produced all over the world. Special focus is given to films that express innovative themes and subjects and that offer a contribution to research into innovative cinematographic forms and languages.
3. FESTIVAL SECTIONS
There are three different competition sections:
- CUSTOM (an overview on filmmaking’s new talents)
- EXPERIENCE (experimental movies and works)
- INVESTIGATION (dedicated to reports and documentary films)
There is also one non-competitive section: PERSPECTIVES
A maximum of 10 works/films will be presented in each competition section, any format and length. All submitted films should be completed after 01 Jan 2009. The Direction of the Festival establishes the placement criteria of each film, according to the languages used and the content of work.
For each section, an International Jury, made up of personalities from the world of cinema, journalism and culture, coming from various countries, will award the TITUS prize for: Best film for each section.
Each section will receive two prizes among the following ones: Best Director, Best Subject, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Actor, Best Actress .

4. SUBMITTING TO LIFF
a) Three submission deadlines are established:
- early deadline: June 15, 2010
- regular deadline: September 30, 2010
- late deadline: December 31, 2010

We will accept all submissions with a postmark dated on or before deadline, but please do send your complete submission forms, DVDs and supporting material as soon as possible

c) The Entry Form, completed in all its parts, must be obligatory accompanied by a copy DVD of the participant film, subtitled in English, a copy of the dialogue script in English, the synopsis in English or Italian, the director’s notes , the director 's bio-filmografy in English or Italian, a list of cast and credits, actors’ biographies, director’s, actors’ and film pictures, a DVD with black and white and colour scenes from the film, a short comment by the director and any other documentation seemed useful for selection. If you submit on-line please do not forget to attach the tracking number given by Withoutabox.
d) Submissions out of this rules will not be considered for selection.
e) All works/films copies (selected for competition or not) will not be returned, and will be included in the Historical Archive of the Festival, destined only for research purposes, excluding any commercial use.
5. FESTIVAL SCHEDULE
a) The general scheduling and screening times are
the sole responsibility of the Festival Direction. The screening
will be held using BRD, DVD, DV, Betacam SP video formats and
standards.
b) All the selected films will be published on the website www.levanteinternationalfilmfest.com before 30 May 2011. The festival organizers ensure that authors will be informed rapidly of their acceptance in the Festival through an e-mail.
c) All necessary material for the Festival catalogue, beyond that already sent for registration, must be sent as soon as possible; in any case, they MUST reach the Festival office no later than 15 January 2011.
6. PRIZES
The three Best Films will receive E. 5.000,00, destinated to distribution and promotion of the film.
7. GENERAL RULES
a) Any shipping charges to and from the Festival (including custom
charges for works/films sent from outside the European Union) are to
be met by the participants.
b) Authors are solely responsible for the content of their film. The Festival organizers accept no responsibility for the content of the films.
c) The Director of the Festival reserves the right to adjudicate any case not covered by the regulations herein, and can make exceptions to the regulations in justified, well-motivated cases.
d) Application to take part to the Levante International Film Festival, implies the unconditioned acceptance of the rules and regulations of the Festival. Whosoever submits a film to the competition must fulfil all obligations with respect to third parties involved in the making of the films that is to be broadcast during the Levante International Film Festival.

sezioni competitive posticipate al 2011
L'edizione 2010 del Festival prevede soltanto sezioni non competitive. Le scadenze per l'iscrizione alle sezioni competitive sono state prorogate; le iscrizioni già ricevute e quelle che arriveranno entro le nuove scadenze verranno considerate per l'edizione 2011 del Festival, che si svolgerà nel periodo 1 - 11 Luglio 2011.
Dopo l'edizione del 2009, di grande successo, quest'anno il Levante International Film Festival vive un momento di difficoltà, in termini di crescita, idee, partecipazione e organizzazione. Nuove proposte lo renderanno più ricco, con sezioni sia collegate a temi di attualità, sia a quelli tradizionali del Festival (Cinema indipendente, Europa dell'Est, il Sud come luogo della condizione umana).
Il programma del 2010: sono in programma 5 forum dedicati al tema dell'energia (energia nucleare, energie alternative, energia del corpo, energia della mente, energia spirituale), con proiezioni e tavole rotonde che vedranno la partecipazione di ospiti importanti; sono previsti incontri con esponenti dei principali Festival di cinema indipendente; si allungherà lo sguardo sul cinema del Kazakistan, con la presentazione dei lavori più importanti e attuali di quel Paese. Il Levante Film Festival parlerà inoltre del Sud del Mondo, che significa Paesi stretti tra la povertà e la pressione della crescita.
Il Festival si chiuderà con una mostra fotografica dedicata ai fratelli Manaki (pionieri del cinema balcanico).
Quest'anno mancheranno le tradizionali sezioni competitive Custom, Experience e Investigation, nonostante le molte iscrizioni ricevute.
In effetti, l'elevato numero di iscrizioni e l'organizzazione delle sezioni non competitive, ci costringe a prestare un'attenzione particolare all'intero evento, e a prendere decisioni importanti.
Quindi, abbiamo progettato il Festival del 2010 come un evento privo di sezioni competitive, e la prossima edizione (nel 2011) come un evento che si terrà in estate (1-10 Luglio 2011), con sezioni sia competitive che non competitive, con ospiti internazionali, pronto a ricoprire il ruolo che merita.
A sottolineare il cambiamento, una nuova sede per il Festival: uno spazio di oltre 1000 metri quadri diventerà la sede definitiva del Levante Film Festival, con la nuova gestione della Levante International Film Festival Company.
Per tutte queste ragioni, l'edizione 2010 del Festival, l'ottava, sarà considerata un ponte verso la nona edizione, sulla quale stiamo già lavorando, così da renderla davvero memorabile.
Offriamo a tutti i filmaker che si sono già iscritti all'edizione del 2010 la possibilità di partecipare nel 2011 senza la necessità di iscriversi nuovamente. Abbiamo prorogato le attuali scadenze al 30 Settembre e al 31 Dicembre 2010. Saranno considerati idonei all'iscrizione i film prodotti nel 2009 e nel 2010; gli autori selezionati per la partecipazione al Festival 2011 riceveranno comunicazione della loro ammissione entro il 30 Aprile 2011.
Siamo sicuri che questi cambiamenti, anche se potranno creare problemi a qualcuno, offriranno comunque dei vantaggi a tutti; vantaggi derivanti da un evento che, nelle nostre aspettative, è destinato a diventare uno dei principali sulla scena mondiale del cinema indipendente.

1. ORGANIZZATORI
Levante International Film Festival è organizzato dall’Associazione Culturale Nuove Produzioni Spettacolari con la collaborazione dell’Associazione Culturale LIFF e con il contributo della Regione Puglia, del Comune e della Provincia di Bari, di altre istituzioni pubbliche e private e di sponsor. LA VIII edizione di Levante - International Film Festival si svolgerà a Bari nel novembre 2010.
2. OBIETTIVI
Levante International Film Festival si propone come un evento di incontro e di confronto per il cinema indipendente internazionale, con lo scopo di promuovere la conoscenza e contribuire alla diffusione dei film realizzati da autori di tutto il mondo. Con una particolare attenzione per quei film che esprimono temi e soggetti innovativi e che rappresentano momenti di ricerca linguistica e formale.
3. SEZIONI DEL FESTIVAL
Il Festival si articola nelle seguenti sezioni competitive:
- CUSTOM (Opere con un linguaggio prevalentemente cinematografico)
- EXPERIENCE (Opere dall’impianto dichiaratamente sperimentale per forme e contenuti)
- INVESTIGATION (Opere con intenti d’inchiesta, indagine e denuncia)
È prevista inoltre una sezione non competitiva: PROSPETTIVE
Per le competizioni verranno selezionate circa dieci (10) opere per ciascuna sezione, realizzate dopo il 1 gennaio 2009, in qualsiasi formato, di qualsiasi genere e durata. La Direzione del Festival, secondo i criteri legati ai linguaggi utilizzati ed ai contenuti delle opere, deciderà la loro collocazione nelle diverse sezioni.
Una Giuria Internazionale, una per ciascuna Sezione, composta da personalità del mondo del cinema, del giornalismo e della cultura assegnerà il Premio TITUS al Miglior Film di ognuna delle tre sezioni e per Regia, Soggetto, Fotografia, Montaggio, miglior Attore, migliore Attrice con ogni sezione che attribuisce due TITUS.
4. AMMISSIONE DEI FILM E DEI VIDEO
a) per l'iscrizione al Festival sono previste tre diverse scadenze:
- prima scadenza: 15 Giugno 2010
- seconda scadenza: 30 Settembre 2010
- terza scadenza: 31 Dicembre 2010

b) La scheda d’iscrizione, compilata in tutte le sue parti, deve essere corredata obbligatoriamente da: una copia in DVD del film in concorso, sottotitolata in inglese e lista dialoghi in inglese, dalla sinossi, da note di regia, la bio-filmografia del regista, cast e crediti, biografie attori etc., fotografie del regista, del film e degli attori, dvd con scene dal film in bianco e nero e a colori, con l’aggiunta di un breve commento del regista al film e ogni altra documentazione che possa essere utile alla selezione del film. In caso di iscrizione online, non va dimenticato di allegare il tracking number di Withoutabox.
c) Ogni invio che non rispetterà le modalità previste non sarà accettato.
d) Le copie dei film non ammessi al Concorso e quelle in competizione, non verranno restituite ed entreranno a far parte dell’Archivio di Levante International Film Festival di pubblica consultazione e senza alcun fine commerciale.
5. PROIEZIONE DEI FILM
a) Il calendario e gli orari delle proiezioni saranno elaborati esclusivamente dalla Direzione del Festival. Le proiezioni potranno essere effettuate da supporti BRD, DVD, DV, Betacam SP.
b) Tutti i film selezionati verranno pubblicati sul sito www.levanteinternationalfilmfest.com entro il 30 Maggio 2011. La segreteria del Festival provvederà ad informare on line direttamente e tempestivamente gli autori delle opere selezionate.
c) Tutto il materiale necessario per il Catalogo del Festival, oltre a quello già inviato per l'iscrizione, in caso richiesto, deve pervenire agli uffici del Festival al più presto possibile e comunque non oltre il 15 Gennaio 2011.
6. PREMI
Le 3 opere vincitrici come Miglior Film riceveranno un contributo di EURO 5000,00 per la promozione e la distribuzione.
7. NORME GENERALI
a) Tutte le spese di trasporto dei film sono a carico dei proponenti.
b) È a carico dei presentatori la copertura assicurativa inerente al trasporto di andata e ritorno delle opere e del materiale allegato.
c) Con l’iscrizione al Concorso ogni autore risponde dei contenuti delle sue opere, sollevando la Direzione del Festival da ogni responsabilità. La Direzione del Festival può prendere decisioni relative a questioni non previste dal presente regolamento e di derogare al regolamento stesso in casi ben determinati e motivati.
d) L’iscrizione di un’opera a Levante - International Film Festival implica l’accettazione incondizionata del presente regolamento. La persona che procede all’iscrizione di un’opera deve assicurarsi degli adempimenti necessari nei confronti di terze parti coinvolte nella realizzazione dell’opera che verrà diffusa attraverso gli spazi concessi da Levante International Film Festival.
